On Feb 24 we woke up at 5.45 because of a sudden loud noise. We had a construction work nearby and at first I thought something went wrong there. But it turned out that my country decided to attack Ukraine with no reason for it.
Of course we heard a lot of rumors around this topic but it all looked so incredible. The worst scenario I could imagine was occupation of pro-Russian DNR and LNR republics. So we stayed in Kyiv till the launch of war. At 7 am we were driving to the west and saw all that chaos around – a long lined on gas stations, car accidents, building block posts by Ukrainian police, military vehicles headed east. We find ourselves in Lviv city after twelve hours of driving and stayed at Motel there.
In the morning we realized that it would be a full-scale war and decided to leave the country without money, that Raiffeisen Bank locked on my account, without belongings and with no plan what to do next. We drove about 26 hours until we reach Moldova. On Feb 25 things got tougher and with Russian car plates we were stopped several times. After the last stop near the border I found myself at police station Where they thoroughly checked my documents. At last spent 9 hours in the line on border check point. During this day I didn’t saw any signs of aggression or rudeness. People was disordered, stressed and very angry at Putin.
In Chishenau, the capital of Moldova Republic there were many refugees around the city. Banners on the street supported Ukraine and people in the streets are trying to help Ukrainian citizens.
However, rental prices skyrocketed in the city and we decided to move to the Butuceni village. It’s quite and peaceful here so I have a chance to write this post and to contemplate how much we lost as a family, and how how much Russia lost as a country. Unfortunately many people still believe all that nonsense about right radicals in Ukraine that threaten Russian people safety. But more and more people are realizing that it’s another trick to keep power in Russia.
Reading the news I see the streets of the city I loved covered with bullets, dead bodies and wreckages and I’m sure enough that all that lawmakers who agreed on invasion, all that newscaster who inflamed hatred all these years, all that oligarchs who are keeping Putins money should be punished. Unfortunately, we will suffer with them.
