One year of the War

It’s hard to forget the morning of Feb 24, 2022 in Kyiv. The loud burst, the noise of neighbours dashing around the apartments, BBC web site with news about Russian invasion to Ukraine.

After it was the endless traffic jam on the road from Kyiv with brave Ukrainian soldiers rushing in the opposite direction to stop Russian troops, then a night in Lviv and slow realization of what happened.

During the past year we saw so many horrible things, that russian army did in Ukraine, that I could hardly believe that any good feelings toward Russia is possible from Ukraine side for many years to come.

Unfortunately, russian propaganda acted very effectively last decades and many Russian people still support old dictator Putin in his crimes. Many people are willingly went to army to kill innocent civilians who speak the same language and share the same culture.

Unfortunately western leaders were too slow and to cautious to react, and as a result russian budget got more money than expected, and for most russian people war and sanctions are still just the words from the screen. Disillusionment is not yet came to Russia.

Living near the Kyiv’s city center I was frequently walking down the Peremoga (Victory) Avenue, vast and busy street with Soviet era monuments mixed up with modern buildings and art objects. And each time I was thinking about incredible toughness that help people to won in World War II.

Today the entire world is amazed with courage, determination and dignity on Ukrainian people who stopped Russian army and willing to fight back for their soil. It was a costly decision. A tens of thousands of life were lost. Soldiers on the battlefields, civilians in their houses and towns were killed staying for the liberty of their country. And today the entire world supports Ukraine, praying for peace for this country, for their Peremoga.

Слава Українi!
